Is converter lock up controlled by speedo on a 89 IROC?
I have an 89 IROC Z and am in need of new gauges. I've been told that on the 90-92 that the speedo controls torque converter lock up and a few other things on the speed density set up. I have MAF and a cable driven speedo. What does the cable driven speedo have to do with my computer on my IROC. I've been driving it with no noticable problem with the speedo cable broken so what is the difference?

the speed sensor is inside the speedo head ,so whith a broken cable and the speedo not working the ecu does not know if & how fast you are moving so it cannot lock the converter ,so you are always driving around with the converter unlocked................ eventialy it will kick a check engine lite

It is not great for the transmission either, but mostly is only bad on the highway.
