I need some help

Hey guys,

I recently bought a 1985 Z28 Camaro
It's a 305, 5speed

there are a few electrical problems i would like to fix but im not sure how to go about doing it.

One of them is the tach is wayyy off. it idles at 4000rpm and when i barely put my foot on the gas it goes all the way over to 7000rpm. I was thinking that maybe if i just buy a new instrument cluster it would fix the problem.

also with that when i turn on the head lights the lights on the instrument cluster dont come on.

i was also thinking if i was going to buy a new instrument cluster, i would like the upgrade maybe to the IROCs instrument cluster that the speedometer goes up to 145mph instead of 85mph. would that be possible? would the speedometer read correctly?

also the drivers seat is a power seat, but it moves forward but not backwards. which is really inconvenient. any ideas?

Simply swapping in a new tach might be the answer. This can be done from the front of the cluster. It's a simple plug and play, perahaps 15 minutes. Or, as you suggest, you could swap in a 145 (you'll need the mechanical version). Again a simple plug and play. The speedo will read correctly. For more info about that, check the following link:

Try rotating the headlight switch ****, which acts as a dimmer too. Perhaps the switch is set to "off".

Re: I need some help

Make all tests at the seat switch. Leave the switch connected and back-probe the connector. Hold the switch in different positions and check for these voltages:

1. DK Blue wire "FWD" 0 volts "BKWD" 0 volts
2. LT GRN 0 12
3. ORN/BLK 12 12
4. BLK 0 0
5. LT BLU 0 0
6. TAN 12 0
7. YEL 0 0
8. DK GRN 0 0

If something is amiss, new switch. If not, motor.
