86 to 89, very different. And VATS?

I had a beautiful 86 WS6 TA that eventually succumbed to rust and sat in my back yard. Now, 10 years later I get around to buying a 89 base model with a solid body. The idea was to turn the 89 into the 86 TA.

The problem is, I have run into very different wiring on almost everything and it almost would have been easier to swap all wiring from the older one to the newer. My issue right now is interfacing the TPI engine harness with the 89 wiring. Yes, the connectors snap right in, but the wiring to the connectors is different.

Other issues, aside from engine controls:

windshield wiper system is different
washer pump is different
heating and AC is different
headlight activator system is different
taillight wiring is different

Also the 89 has the VATS system. The VATS system controls the signal to the starter but I notice it also sends a signal to the ECM. Now I have put a not VATS ECM into the car. Must I now remove the VATS?

Mike

just a thought but why not just re-pin your 89 ECM harness to run TPI seems like alot less work.
