Dash Cluster LEDs - Random lighting?

I just tried to replace all the 158/194 bulbs in my 86 Trans Am dash cluster with LEDs. Physically, they all fit perfectly, but when I tried lighting it up only certain ones would light in certain places. I tried re-seating the cluster and I got other ones lighting that didn't light before, but the ones that lit up first didn't anymore. I also had my left turn signal indicator on solid at one point but I had neither the turn signal nor the hazards activated. When I DID activate the turn signals, the LED in the indicator socket didn't light, but ALL the LEDs that were lit in the car (I have them in my dome light and courtesy lights as well) flickered slightly in sync with the blink of the signal.

All I want to do is replace the 158/194 bulbs in my dash cluster with LEDs and have them all light the same as the regular bulbs did.

I'm not asking for much.... am I?

Re: Dash Cluster LEDs - Random lighting?

well some LED's you have to have make sure + is at + and - is at -, i know in the case of some lighting as in the front side markers the ground for them is the hot for the front turn, now if it a case like that the LED's wont make that artifical ground, if you ever put LED's in your front turn/park you will notice your sidemakers wont work right, here a pic so you can better see what im taking about, not sure if there is a issue like that involved, or if its cruddy LED's..... guys replace there 194's with the "plug and play" LEDs all the time, wish i could help more

ok it didnt post the pic but here is a link to where i posted it b4 https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...kers-85-a.html

Thanks for your reply.

I'll have to go over it in detail. All the bulbs I replaced with LEDs so far have been inside (trunk, dome light, the 2 lights next to the kick panels, and the center console compartment light). I've been ordering the same types of LEDs for them all so I didn't think I'd have an issue here. I suppose some may be backwards. I'll have to try that first.

hey check out http://www.superbrightleds.com/ for more help with them LEDS. for the turn signal you have to get a low resistance flasher relay or else they wont flash. but ill tell you the LEDs look way better then the stock bulbs.
