hood light mounting ?
i want to get an under hood light for my 83 bird. i know how it works and all but i was wondering where to mount it and in what direction so the mercury switch will work properly. also, what do i mount it to? not the hood itself so i guess the reinforcement panels?
anyone have a pic or anything?

Re: hood light mounting ?
Doesn't matter where you mount it, anywhere on the hood will do. Mercury switch should be positioned so that when the hood is up, the mercury is over both contacts (to make a complete circuit). If you can't see the mercury, use a continuity testor to find out what position it does and doesn't make a complete circuit.

OK
These are from an 82 Camaro Hood. Note this hood has the air induction flaps for the TBI crossfire engine.
As Douchermann mentioned, it probably does not matter to much where you put the lamp assembly as long as it clears the air cleaner, etc. when the hood is closed. Note that you will need to run a ground wire from the lamp back to the fender frame for a good ground. Look in the factory assembly darwings for some ideas. The factory drawings are for the 82 Camaro model year. However, many of the details were used for a number of years...
See this thread for one of the photos, as the board will not let me upload it twice.

Thanks. If you want to see any other pictures of the under hood lamp let me know, I have several more on the hard drive. It also is not much of a problem to pop the hood and get a shot or two.
