no oil pressure
I`m assuming its the sending unit or gauge cause the needle has been bouncing around for 5 years. The oil pump has about 8000 miles on it,same as the engine.Atleast i hope thats all it is.I have the unit with the little black bell on it behind /below the distributer.Gonna get a new one tomarrow.I`ve heard its a PITA and I`ve heard its not too bad,but mainly I`m just posting cause I don`t know when it went out figure I atleast drove 20 to 30 miles at zero pressure reading.Just gimmie some peace of mind and tell me if it was really no oil pressure it would have died, made some horrible noise, run hot or over heated, had no oil in it,or some other terrible thing.None of these things were the case and it still ran fine on the way home.I did a search on changing it since it`s not in the chilton manual that I could find but I ran into conflicting reports about its difficulty with simple hand tools. If anyone knows any tricks or has anyother input on replaceing it please let me know.thanks

Re: no oil pressure
If you really had no oil pressure, you'd know it. Replacing the sender near the distributor is about as easy as repairs get.

Re: no oil pressure
thank you.Took the old one off and got a replacement.Went to several parts stores and the only one they had is about twice the size of the one I took off.It works fine however.Good as new and it was easy I dont know why anyone would say that was a pita.

Re: no oil pressure
It is harder on the newer blocks. Not sure what year they changed the oil sender location exactly but on my 91, it's by the oil filter. It can be hard to get a wrench in that location and it can get messy too.
But it's not nearly as bad as changing all spark plugs!

Re: no oil pressure
Pull off a valve cover and see if your getting oil to the rockers.. if no oil.. don't start or drive anymore.
Could also be a bad gauge in the console. But yeah.. change the sender unit. as a start.
