serious wiring help Head & Taillights not working
serious wiring help Head & Taillights not working
Ok i so i replaced all the bulbs and head lights in my 86 Firebird, the 3 wire connectors to the headlights i soddered together because they stripped, anyways the whole car's wiring harrness was done professionally for a swift $960, for the LS1 i installed...
Ok, the first time i put a battery in the car i tried the headlights before anything, they came up and went down, gauage lights worked, interior lights worked, then it just stopped working??????
i tested the soddered for the headlight and ran a hot wire to them from the battery and everything worked, and if i use a test light for the fuses they are good, and so are the wires i tested....
so i put a new brake light switch in, new hazard fuse, 3 new headlight relays, new dimmer switch, new headlight switch, nothing used, cleaned all the car's plug ins and still nothing!!!!! No gauage lights work either?????? brakes do not light up when i tap the brake pedel either?????? car does run though and everything else works i.e. power windows, actual gauages, but not the lights, interior lights work, but not exterior lights unless its the hazards
Now to add onto it, maybe this might make sense to only the problem... When i turn on the driver side turn signal - only the rear turn signal works, and neither one of the two that are supposed to on the front of the car,
then when i flip on the passenger turn signal - the rear turn signal is working but all 4 parking light blink on front of the car, And still not headlights??? i've paid 2 people to try and help several days and no one can figure it out...?
any ideas? anything will help at this point other wise i can drive the car unless its daytime, and even then i can't use turn signals, id hate to run toggles for the headlights...
Thanks,
Charlie

Re: serious wiring help Head & Taillights not working
i see noone has thrown any ideas out there so here's my two cents, may have nothing to do with it, may have everything, take it as you will cause i know it's not fun to play with. The turn signal switch in the steering column operates the high/low beam switch and the turn signal outputs to each individual side of the car. Only reason i thought that is becuase of the weird problem your having with the turn signals. I don't know, like i said it could be genious or just a waste of your time...
Re: serious wiring help Head & Taillights not working
good idea, hopefully it's fixes the turn signals... anything is worth a try at this point, i have parts 86 Trans Am, ill take the steering column out of it (the column swap seems quicker & cheaper right now) and see if it fixes the turn signal problem...
appreciate it

no prob, just figured it's the only thing you haven't changed at this point and it's one more thing to cross off the list. Just make sure it works before you pull it if you can!

Re: serious wiring help Head & Taillights not working
the fusible links don't need to appear to be melted as they normally do, i've had one melt inside and not even affect the insulatoin, it was weird, but after i replaced it, everything worked again. Check the tail lamp fuse, it's a 20 Amp fuse, and make sure at the headlight switch you have at least one wire that is hot when the car is off.
