Fusible Links
Fusible Links
Was driving around today around 10 AM, after just installing headers last night, and my Trans Am suddenly dies. Radio shuts off, gauges off, hazards don't work, lights won't go up. I immediately think fusible link (has never happened before, but I know the wiring of the car pretty good). Anyway..I was right, and after getting towed 2 miles back home by a friend, I replace it, and it works. It was one of the two that come from the starter solenoid.
My question is what causes the fusible links to go bad? It's replaced and works now but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Any information on any possible cause the blow one of the links will be of great help.

Re: Fusible Links
my guess is that wires got moved during the header install and maybe created a short? I would trace the wire on which you replaced the fusible link on and make sure its fully insulated and ran correctly.
Re: Fusible Links
I figured it was something due to the headers, but I need to know exactly what the fusible links send power to. Knowing what circuits they power would help a bunch, and non of the wiring diagrams see to show where they go.
