Sounds like it might be a VATS problem, do a search you will find alot of information on it.

Re: problem with 89 camaro please help

ok so i check the resis on the key pellet and it omes out 887 so i disconnect the 2 white cables going to the vats mod and put the key in and turn it and test the vats cables and 887 coming to the vats so my vats system is good and while trying all this it seemed like i was loosing power y dome light got dimmer and dimmer so i go and check the battery off 12.36 check with the keys turned 12.36 so my battery is good i just replaced the pos cable and the started cylenoid so i decided to check it so i start to disconnect the neg and i see my dome light go bright again so i tighten and there it goes it starts right up so i replace it and the car works great so just a bad cable so when i checked the cables to begin with it seemed to be good but it is rusted on the connection it self it seemed to be a good connection but it not so everythings good thanks jason1313 for your input

Re: problem with 89 camaro please help

Glad you found the bad cable connection. That's a 100% cause of the "everything died when I tried starting" problem.
The bad connection can be either between the battery post and the cable terminal or even between the terminal and cable. Also, one more place that a bad connection could occur at is the starter where the positive cable attaches to the post and small orange wires branch off.

Hope this helps others when they try to search.

Lou
