Re: Flickering High beam head lights

I am going to assume your alt is fine, but does it fluctuate with the lights?
I would say bad ground, but check alt/bat.

Re: Flickering High beam head lights

Correct, the Hi/Lo beam is on the top left side of the steering column, right by the ignition switch, deep inside the dash.
It helps to drop the steering column a bit to get to it, definitely easier access.

However, the Hi/Lo beam switch has no grounds. It is a simple mechanical switch for the hot lead to the headlights.
The light green wire is the one that supplies power from it to the high beams. You might have a loose connection somewhere and that connection might be arcing, causing the flicker.
The light green wire goes from the Hi/Lo beam switch to the C100 connector on the driver side and from there it travels along the driver side fender to the front of the vehicle.

Do the lights flicker only while driving or even when the car is parked and engine shut off?

Hope this helps.

Re: Flickering High beam head lights

Looking at the steering column from underneath, it will look like this:

The Hi/Lo beam switch is in the left upper corner of the picture, white and baby blue.

Hope this helps.

I had the exact same issue tonight. Has anyone found the problem? I am sure we all have the same cause........ I will try to check mine later this week, if I locate the problem I'll post it here. If anyone gets to it before me, please post it too. Thanks!

If the on & off problem is at a consistent time pattern, the problem is a faulty circuit breaker which is contained in the light switch.

Happy Racing!

Re: ☼ ☼ Flash Dance ☼ ☼

My lights flickered - at first seemed to only be the high beams, but later I noticed it was everything but it was just hard to tell in the city (in the dark country it's easier to see what's flickering). I had my alternater tested first (why? because I was feeling lazy and the parts stores test for free). Alternator was the problem - mine was overcharging and thus making the lights flicker - had receipt even though the alternator was over 1 year old, got a free replacement - problem solved!

Might not be YOUR issue - but it only takes 10 minutes to have it checked, and you get to let someone else do it for free!

Hey I replace the dimmer headlight swich and i continue with the same problem, following the above recommendations i went to test my alternator o sorprice is charging 12 to 13.5 volts but the amps are 17 amps but based in the worker must chage more i will go to a spetialist this weekend and I will let you know.
I have a question all of you, do you have the stock light bulbs? I replace it by a H4 bulb and the problem started

Re: Flickering High beam head lights

check c100 connector at pin a2 for voltage (check the side coming from inside.) this is the green wire for the high beams. if you have close to battery voltage there your dimmer switch etc. is fine and that wire is bad. follow it and you'll find some splices. those are most likely your problem. if power side is fine then you have a bad ground and must see the ground distribution for your specific year.
I had a bad ground on my gauge cluster since the PO that installed the overlays grounded them by loosely wrapping the wire around a metal part of the panel that goes above the obd port. Believe it or not this bad ground not even tied into the headlight system would cause the exact same issue for me. Needless to say my wife was a little irritated when the car i just bought lost all headlights at 55mph in the dark and I started screaming profanities in front of my son. Good luck.

Re: Flickering High beam head lights

My proud Camaro owners and friends I found the root cause for my problem, my problem was the high beam low beam switch it is the parts is attached in the steering wheel column I noted that this pieces has a sealed beam specs and I am using a blue halogen H4 this overheats the switch and start flickering (thanks to BigBadLou) the Solution is: I replaced the switch and I upgrade my head lights inhaling relays and taking the power direct to from the battery and power solve!! See links bellow I hope you this helps you.

Re: Flickering High beam head lights

Let me add a simple twist to this. My issue is random flickering of my right hi-beam only. No issues with low beam...only when I cut on my brights, the right one will randomly come on, go off. Usually it stays off for a good while, then comes on, back off...totally random. Any ideas? Could a faulty multi-function switch cause this? Or the dimmer switch?

Logically, if the left beam works 100%, then the fault is not in power supply (headlight switch, wire, dimmer switch). The fault is definitely on the right side of the car.

Check the connector on the back of the bulb/light. They tend to come loose. If might be barely on, causing an intermittent contact.

Hope this helps.
