Do I need new blinker fluid?

Okay so Hi I'm Chris I'm new and I just bought a 84 camaro z28 5 speed. I need to go get it inspected but the only problem I see is that my left blinker just stays solid. When I turn them on all three bulbs light up but no blinking the right blinker works fine no problem whats wrong with my left blinker? I replaced the flasher under the dash behind the OBD1 port. When I turn my hazards on they all blink fine but the left front (under the front bumper) blinks real dim. Could it be a ground? Can someone please help? Thank you in advance.

i would start by swapping the left and right blinker bulbs and see if the problem moves with the buld, if not try running a tempory extra ground and try the blinker again. if the problem is still not found you will have to chase the power back.

Ok so I went and replaced all the bubls and made new grounds and still just solid lights when I have the the switch to the left. It still works fine for the right side.

Anyone have any ideas?

Whats the best way to clean the sockets that the bulbs go in?

Was there corrosion inside the sockets? On VW's I go and make sure theyre clean, and take a pick and tighten up the probes. Works like a charm.

Re: Do I need new blinker fluid?

its starting to sound like your switch, sorry to say, i cant imagine that they are cheep. one more thing that you could try to narrow it down, if you feel up to it. try switching the right and left blinker outputs at the switch if the problem changes sides you have found your culprit. you may be able to remove the switch and clean the contacts (not sure).

Re: Do I need new blinker fluid?

the switch is located inside the steering column under the lock plate. It's the thing that the turn signal lever connects to(its white with a hole in the center that the steering shaft runs through). Pull the wheel off, remove the lockplate and you will see it. You will need a lockplate depressor to remove the plate inself. Fishing the wires through the column can be fun.

Re: Do I need new blinker fluid?

do a search everytime you have a problem. i already did a post on this. sometimes out sockets are touchy. clean the problematic one and adjust contacts, wiggle it, tickle it , scream at it, eventually it will work!

Re: Do I need new blinker fluid?

Ok so its still all messed up. I did notice that on the right (working signal) the short filament blinks but on the left (non blinking) the tall filament lights up and stays solid. From what I know the tall filament is the running light and the short one is the signal right? What could be causing this???
