Did a search and couldnt really come up with what i was looking for so here it is. simple questions:

1. How do i disable the buzzer for just the seat belt?
2. What would happen if i took out the buzzer completely?

You guys have a buzzer!! That sucks lol. That is one reason I am glad to have an older car. I dont even have to worry about that stupid idiot light, that my last car used to tell me I wasnt buckled up.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

well i figured out the buzzer today, just figure id post in case anybody else had the same problem.

- With buzzer module completely removed, there will be no buzz but also no dummy lights. i.e service engine soon or infl rest.

- buzzer module must be in harness for dummy lights to function correctly.

- to disable buzzer ONLY but keep module in harness so dummy lights work correctly:

1. take out buzzer module
2. open up buzzer module by suppressing the clips that fasten the unit together.
3. remove circuit board from case.
4. on the upper section of the module casing, remove white plastic ring, metal circular piece, and metal support brace that connects circuit board to speaker.
5. reassemble the buzzer module and plug it back into harness
6. enjoy not having that annoying buzz anymore in your camaro!

Even my 85 has the buzzer. As long as you're not stoooooid enough to forgo the belts whenever you climb into the car, the buzzer doesn't count.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

Was having no seat belt light or buzzer a firebird only thing then? I usually dont wear my seatbelt because the ones in these cars are so uncomfortable. Any other car doesent really bother me, but the one in my firebird is so tight the way it sucks into your gut. I wonder if that is because its a "sports car"??

My cousin got an 06 civic, and it has little scales to see if someone is sitting in the seat. I rode in his car once and we were about 100ft down the road, and *beep beep beep* hes like dude you gotta buckle up, or that thing will stay on the whole ride. LOL

[QUOTE=slow_90firebird;3660823I usually dont wear my seatbelt because the ones in these cars are so uncomfortable.[/QUOTE]

Your life (though it really belongs to your loved ones). Around here recently, ten fatalities, 10 poor dumbs saps not wearing seat belts. I and my family wear them 100 percent of the time. As far as I'm personally concerned, there is no excuse for not wearing them.

Also, if you only want to take care of the seatbelt chime (and seatbelt fasten light) simply cut the YELLOW wire in the harness that goes to the (in)convenience center. That will disable only the seatbelt chime and light.

I still prefer to have the chime because it alerts me if my lights are on since I drive with the lights on most of the time...

That's a new one... but would you rather be a little unconfortable when you drive your car or possibly end up dead?

Anyone know why mine would go off randomly throughout the drive? (I have my seatbelt on, and so does the passenger) I usually don't hear it through the music, but when its off, it gets annoying.... every 5 or so mins.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

Well, I am just a problem to my loved ones, they really dont love me that much I dont think. They would rather I was never born. But I suppose if I die then they will be left in the wake of my debt for a long time...

I dont mind wearing the seatbelt sometimes, but other times it just bothers the crap out of me. Plus I always take it off if I am snow driving or somethng, because it interferes with my ability to react and steer quickly.

So down to what I was wondering, does that mean if I have no seatbelt light, or chime, that a previous owner disabled it? Because I have the headlight chime and the key-in-ignition chime.

How old are you talking about? My '73 Trans Am has a seatbelt warning light and buzzer. The real great part is that the buzzer won't turn off until you buckle up! 1974 is even better. It was federal law that year that all cars sold in the US would NOT start unless the front seat occupants were buckled up first. More than a few congressmen got threatened to be voted out of office over that one ...

TheBigJ, I occationally had the same problem on my '84 Trans Am. If you open up the chime module you'll find a round disc(potentiometer/timer) that goes through the circuit board. The factory solder isn't very good and as the potentiometer heats up over the years it eventually gets a bad contact which will make it function at random. Resoldering it with some high temp solder will fix it for good.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

haha my chime doesn't usually go off because I think I have a short in it. :P Like I put my belt on every time I get in it, but it doesnt even tell me I dont have my belt on as I usually start it before I buckle up. When it does come on it will chime for 2 chimes and then just kind of die lol maybe it the speaker for it? lol

my chime is on the second i open the driver door, and doesn't go away until you close the driver door. Haven't figured that issue out yet.

That is the key reminder chime. It the chime is going off when the door is opened and there is no key in the ignition lock then there is something wrong with the contact adjustment in the steering column.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

well i think the tumbler is shot...is a PITA and annoying as all hell, you need to jiggle it and move it and yea...not fun, not to mention...manual cars...is there supposed to be a spring holding up that little lever?? Mine is settled down and to turn it into the on or run position you need to lift that up once you get it to actually move into acc. I also have no acc. Tumbler and possible spring adjustment/replacement gonna fix all that???

and yes, it's with the key out of the ignition, thats what i assumed that it was the chime for the key...but only prob was there was no key in there, lol.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

Yes, that little lever on manual trans columns is suppose to be up. You're suppose to have to press down on it to be able to turn the ignition cylinder to the LOCK position and remove the key. It sounds like your steering column could use a good disassemble, cleaning, and rebuild.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

by rebuild you mean fix the sprining action of that manual arm button and a new ignition tumbler right...? Not some outragious $100 kit...? Suprised...only thing that works well on the damn steering column is the tilt, tight as the day it left the factory i assume as there is no jiggle what so ever. Locks in every time. What exactly is the spring for the manual arm button...? can i just jimmy rig a spring in there to have it work like it should, i've combed the junkyards, not going to find a manual car any time soon, not to mention it would be a pain to try and tear a 20+ year old car in this weather to see it break on me. Is there a readily available part or something?? Haven't done any research, was the last thing on my list to touch upon.

1. Driving in the snow is when you are more prone to be in an accident.
2. You don't want to turn suddenly when driving in the snow because you will easily lose traction and the car will just keep on plowing ahead until friction is finnally able to slow it down.

That will also disable all the buzzers (key in ignition, lights on, etc). To disable just the seatbelt buzzer, unplug the connector next to the driver's seat and under the plastic cover for the seatbelt take up reel. I think it sends a ground to the light and buzzer when there is no tension on the seatbelt.

Re: Seat belt chime.....

Its in the convinience center. You have to remove the driver's side underdash panel, and it would be next to the radio pod (behind the service port(?))... do a search, you'll find it..

Re: Seat belt chime.....

To sum up a previous owner might need to disable seatbelt chime by cutting yellow wire or is there another easier way?
I personally do not like this idea and would like to know how to solve this mystery.
Seatbelt branch plug is connected to wire under seat allready.

I'm not sure why people are saying to cut the yellow wire, I guess it depends on the year. My '92 service manual says the black wire connects to the seatbelt switch "Open with LH Seat Belt Buckled". So you can either bend/break the "E" tab on the inconvenience center alarm module, cut that black wire (on a 92 at least) or just disconnect the connector at the seat belt base (which is the easiest and reversible way to do it).

*edit* Always wear a seatbelt. I feel funny not wearing one, but don't need a 'reminder' to put it on. As some others have mentioned, it's really annoying when working on a car.
