Relay?

On my stock 1987 LG4 Formula there is a relay (I think) attached to the passenger side fender right next to the battery. It has a plug with some wires that plugs into the square relay that is attached by one screw to the inner fender. Does anyone know what this is? I was at the junkyard and cut one off of a 1990 305 TBI car and it is a little bit different. It has two wires going into it with a 20 amp fuse in it. Could I change the relay set up in my 1987 over to the 1990 set up?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Relay?

if i'm understanding you correctly, you are referring to the fuse that is less than a foot from the battery mounted to the passenger frame/fender rail. It is a fuse that directs power to your ECU (and fuel pump relay on fuel injected cars). Should be a direct swap, i don't understand why they would have changed them at all, but a simple fuse holder of the same guage wire will be a direct swap. Just be sure to seal the crimps that you make with either a shrink cover or something similar to keep moisture out, as you don't need a short to your ECU.
