HELP cant get power window motor brush cap back on the motor

ok against me telling myself not to; i decided out of pure curiousity to remove the window motor brush holder end cap assembly from this previously perfectly good window motor i have sitting here...

and i have tried in any way possible and have found it to be completely IMPOSSIBLE to get the cap assembly back and be able to compress the brushes to get them past the copper armature brush contact diameter,
and it is PISSING ME OFF i want to throw this crap across the room badly

how in the hell do you do this ?

there are no holes anywhere to block them outwards away from the armature

no how whatsoever

i even tried putting the brush end assembly onto the armature and then tried sliding the armature and brush assembly all back into the housing at the same time but to no avail since the magnets in the housing suck the armature back into the housing way too fast in which causes the armature to slip down past the brushes and you have no control over this AT ALL
and also i tried bending the tabs out that hold the brush springs in and one of the tabs broke off when i was bending them back inwards because they are just brass metal

im so pissed off

what the F8CK ?

help

some member here(in a power window motor help thread recently) stated how it was so simple to replace the brushes

i cannot believe that this member has ever taken one apart(now that i see how it cannot be reasembled except by some black voodoo magic)

grrrrrrrrrrr

so now the end result is now i have a F*CKIN perfectly good motor that is useless and i have none for the driver side of my 82 now....

just great..

ppl should refrain from suggesting to other members things they can do easily in which cannot physically be done

for real..

damn..

this was the first and LAST motor i am ever taking apart they are a total NIGHTMARE ! i ahve been through many nightmares over the years regarding vehicle repairs including just recently 1997 concorde inner tie rod rack and pinion bushing replacement and lemme tell you this motor ranks right up there with that nightmare, and with 2.4L quad 4 timing sets too and so on!

anyone who says repacing these brushes is easy is obviously lying and has not done one

i did the same thing. how i did it was i put one brush in at a time, took tiny rubber bands ,and held down the brushes. once it was back together i just cut the rubber bands. hope it helps.

Huh, rubber bands, never thought of that. Good idea!

Usually, the brush housing has two miniature holes where you can stick a strand from an electric wire to hold the brush in. Leave the strand a few inches long and once you know that the brushes are over the commutator, just pull the strands out.
If you don't have holes, it shouldn't be a problem to drill some. But they should be really small, not like 1/8" or something.

Re: HELP cant get power window motor brush cap back on the motor

yeah there are definitely no holes in the housing at all to hold back the brishes

luckily i got an 89 gmc 2500 conversion van given to me recently and the passenger side window motor worked great in it so i yanked that one out before i scraped ithe van
and so now i have a motor thats not in pieces, for the trans am

and i have the old one out of the trans am currently, as of the other day,

just need to stick this gmc one in soon now
