Yet another starter problem...going crazy!!
I have an 89 camaro with a 305TBI, sometimes the car starts like no problem and other times it pulls power from the battery but nothing happens. I have installed a push button starter to bypass key ignition, I have bypassed neutral switch, installed a brand new relay from ignition switch, new battery, and a new starter soleniod and I still have this problem. All connections are clean and all other systems work...any ideas please!?

I was going to suggest loose connections. But with you replacing the solenoid, I kind of doubt that would be it.
Have you tried a new starter?

not yet, but if it were the starter motor why will it work perfectly sometimes and not even solenoid clicking other times...I'm starting to think its the VATS system because ive checked ALL connections. Is there a way to test if the key is going bad?

I have the same problem too. Sometimes works great and other times it does nothing I turn the key back and then try to start again and it does. I think it is in my wiring somewhere probably a loose wire I bet.
I made a key without the VATS chip it will start the car but dies immediatly so I think it isn't that.
I am going to keep a eye on this thread and see if someone can figure this out.

I had the same problem. I put a starter button and new wires to the starter. You still have to have the key on for the starter to work with the button. Run a wire from the batt. to the button and back to the small post on the starter. Leave everything else hooked up normally. If that doesn't work try a new starter otherwise i'm not sure what it will be.

actually I did basically exactly what you said bout a month ago. Got the button mounted under the dash where you can't even see it...works like a charm.
