Why am I blowing up solenoids.

Why am I blowing up solenoids.
I put the wires on red on main stud with pos batt, and purple on s termnail crank the starter out of the engine bay, then gear moves shut it off. Then it dies(More blows), and the starter can't be hot jumped.
