i want to hang myself over my vats issue
hello fellow forum members. i am in a tight bind. i have a 91 camaro with a steering colum out of an 82. i cant tell which motor it has either the tpi 5.0 or 5.7 because i think some one removed or replace it. my problem is the motor is very good and the steering colum work out ok, but i took my dash apart to rewire my speakers and i came across a harness with two wires with a resistor crimped to both ends. when i touched the wire to move it the resistor fell out. i still have the resistor and took it to radioshack and the were dumb founded even with my old one. i have come to find out from reading miles of past forums that i need you guy expertise. i dont want anything free but i want to eliminate this system. i dont want to do the resistor thing unless theres no other way. i have read up on burning the chip in the ecm. help...help.....help

To totally eliminate it, yes, you have to have the chip burnt, with VATS disabled.
There's another way to do it, but it requires building your own, rather complicated, circuit board.
There's modules you can use instead of a resistor. One you "program" yourself, to show the correct resistance to the module, the other "learns" it on its own.
Lastly, the resistor trick works fine. I've had mine bypassed that way for over a year now, with no problems.
