Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

Im really having some trouble with my wiring, the only things that electrically work on the car are my power windows, seats, and my radio. and my reverse lights.. other then that. nothing no blinkers, tails, heads, interior lights, power mirrors or locks.

All fuses are ok, its like its just not getting power...

where should I check, where does it get its power? I bought a haynes no help.

The plug that goes onto the alt, theres a red wire dangling thats supposoed to be on the back that isnt hooked up could that be it?

Or theres a wire coming off the Pos batt hookup thats getting power not hooked to anything...

Just give me some ideas where to look I KNOW it has to be something really dumb, im just NO electrician by any means.

Any help is apprecaited on where I should look. Thanks guys.

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

Hi,
Im having similar problem. Check wiring diagrams at autozone.com for your particular model and year. There in the repair guides that are available online. Great info. I have an 85 and there are 2 wires from the starter solenoid that power everything. One of them powers courtesy for which You have a fuse in fuse box including headlight doors, the other one powers everything else. Both have fusible links( thinner wire than the surrounding wire acting as fuses) maybe one is broken. Since Youve lost power to so many things I think the problem should be close to the battery. Anyway, the info on autozone is great but if You need more diagrams I might have them, let me know and ill check.

good luck!

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

The starter consists of two cylindrical objects, the bigger one is the starter motor itself and the smaller one is the starter solenoid and that's where the wires are connected. One of them is thick and is going to the battery, and the 2 or 3 others are having so-called "fusible links" inline and are going into the car. Just reconnect any wires there that are dangling loose or not being solid when pulled on.
Fusible links are just a short piece of wire 2 gages thinner than the wire it is protecting.

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

well that bigger wire coming off the solenoid isnt going to my battery, (theres is a positive running from the battery to starter though if thats what you meant) and theres a fusible link thats coming off my battery thats cut, not going to anything, does it go to the back of the ALT?

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

Please try to read and understand what people are trying to tell you..
Did this problem happen along the way by itself or are you trying to fix something that may have been hacked before you got the car?
Do you have an extra starter solenoid in addition to the one on the starter?
There are supposed to be two red wires with fusible links and one red without coming off the starter's big stud. One supplies the ignition/ starting /coolant fan system and the other supplies the lights and accessories. The third red wire w/o fuse goes to the alt. There is also an orange fusible link coming off the alt wire midways and it supplies the injection system.

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

i understand that now, but theres a plug on my alt one wire from it goes the the harness, the other looks like it goes on the back but its not hooked up. I assume the red wire without the inline fuse goes to the back.

Now i have a red fusible link coming off the positive battery cable wire thats cut short just hanging there and I KNOW it must be important.

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

By the sound of it you have bought a car that has had some hack jobs on the wiring. It's hard to tell what's what from your descriptions.
The alt should have a thin brown wire on one spade terminal, a thick black/red wire to a ring terminal - branching to a short red wire going to a spade terminal.
Have you been under the car? The cut wire is most likely the culprit and should continue into the car through a bulkhead connector below the brake booster.

Re: Fuse Box No Power? help FAST! please

yes it was hacked together, I want to fix it though.

heres my best description until i get some pics tonight..

theres a plug going into the top of the alternator, one wires brown from the harness the other wires red with a round thing on it (looks like it might go to the back stud on the ALT). but its hooked to nothing as we speak.

Theres my battery, it has a negative cable grounded to body, and a positive going to the starter. on the same spot of where the positive goes on the starter theres 2 red wires coming off both fusible links 1 of them splits off into another wire that has a plug and plugs into the harness.
On the starter there is a thick tan wire (no fusible link) coming off running into the harness also.

then theres my mystery wire (redish orange) coming off my positive battery cable near the batt thats cut, it has a fusible link also.

Im going to get pictures and have them up in a few, but until then heres my best description possible!

I appreciate your help so far,
Thanks --Josh
