What in your opinion is the best radar for near 100 can be a bit less or a bit more no biggie. I'm lookin for dependability, good range, etc.

For a little over $100, the Whistler pro 78 is a good performer. Whatever you do, don't buy a Cobra.

I've had a Cobra radar detector for almost 2 1/2 years now and it works great. I paid about $100. Maybe $120? Like with any other electronic, you get what you pay for. If you get a cheap detector, be it Cobra, Whistler, etc and its super cheap, its probably crap. I don't have any complaints about mine. It has pretty good range, about 1 mile. It detects K, Ka, X bands and Laser. Its gotten me out of alot of potential tickets. But keep in mind, radar detectors are only tools that should be used wisely.

radardetector.net has a lot of info on radar detectors and other countermeasures (much like this site for 3rd gens). Also, check out this radar detector test, along with other tests by the guys of lidar, which compares various brands against radar. Just like buying performance car parts, it's good to be well informed in any purchase you make, including radar detectors. For me, I ended up going with the Valentine 1 since it out performs any other detector. One of the best investments for my car ever when considering the effects a couple tickets has on your wallet and insurance premiums.
