Got water in engine bay, now a weird no start situation
Got water in engine bay, now a weird no start situation
Was cleaning out tree/bush debris and got some water in the back corners(closest to firewall) of engine bay. Negative was removed from the battery.
Came back just over 2 hours later, connected battery and went to start. Everything seemed fine until I went to crank, a quick click, and wam, all electrical lost. Even the hood light, everything!
I checked all fuses and everything seemed ok.
I removed the battery, dried it best I could as it was a little wet, tested it and re-installed it.
Hood light came on, and all electrical was restored.
Went to crank again, and wam, all electrical was immediately lost. Not even time for a turn.....as soon as the key was turned to crank, everything was lost.
I removed the battery and the car is in the garage with some heat to help dry everything.
I'm hoping tomorrow after it is dry, it will start. Does anyone know what's going on? Its like a breaker is being tripped, and removing and re-installing the battery seems to reset it. I'd like to know why tho.
Thanks all.

Sounds like a starter issue to me because of the water back by the starter. Had it happen to me once on my 84 from driving through some very heavy rain/puddles. Exact symptoms your speaking of except after a time or two the power didnt come back.
Power goes straight from your battery to the starter first. If your starter gets shorted out, you lose power everywhere else.
I had to replace the starter. Hopefully yours will dry out.
When was the last time the car was running? How old is the battery? If the battery is old it could give the same symptoms as well. First I would try to pull a battery from a car that you know is good and try it. If that doesnt do it then move on to the starter
