need cruise control help

i have a 92 camaro, obdII, was a 305 now 350 car. the cruise worked on it a while ago (probably 2 years ago), and now does not.

my throttle return spring on the throttle body stopped pulling the blades closed on a roadtrip one time and the throttle would stick at about 1500, so i put a spring on it and connected it to the cable bracket. then i had problems with my steering column and had to replace it. the replacement one had a wiper arm with no cruise control. i finally put the correct arm on the replacement column and found out the cruise does not work. i removed the aftermarket spring and that did not help.

is there any way to test if the ruise is on when i out the switch in the on position? where are the components to be tested and how do i test them? i only know of the round item under the driver side of the hood near the headlight that appears to use vacuum to pull the cable attached to the throttle body. i am not very good with electronics so please dummy up your answers for me.

i would appreciate any help someone could give me on this, and thanks in advance

Re: need cruise control help

It's hard to give a complete guidance to a novice in a post like this.
I'm sure a wiring diagram would help you though, but I can't offer any.
There's a double safety turn-off system for the cruise. In addition to the switch on the stalk there's a break switch on the brake pedal. There's also a vacuum valve on the brake pedal that lets air into the "round item", thereby effectively defeating any vacuum pulling on the throttle, when you brake.
The "round item" contains a couple of vacuum solenoids and a position sensor. It should therefore be unaffected by spring tension.
Under the dash is a black box. It could be supplied on it's own cruise fuse circuit. It receives a signal from the speedo sensor buffer box.
Everything needs to be in order for it to work, and since there's no signals to indicate when it's on/ active you'll need to trace/ measure everything out quite manually/ tediously.
If the stalk you got wasn't new there could be a break in the wiring to it btw..

Re: need cruise control help

OK. This is Justins tech friend that dose all his work on the car. I found out he didn't have the vacum line hooked up to the crusie control. The question is where dose the the vacum sorce for that line come from? I tired doing a search and all I found was a diagram for the emission lines, none for the cruise control. Also how dose the VSS signal come into play with cruise? He switched to the OBD2 ecm. The thing I found on cruise said it needed 2000 pulse I belive. It that is not at 2000 dose that make the cruise function at a diffrent speed then the car is actualy moving at, or dose that just make it not work at all. Thanks in advance for all the help! Adam :-)

Re: need cruise control help

The vacuum comes off of a T connector in the line right near the charcoal canister. I believe it is the line that comes from the sphere directly below the canister. Hope that helps with that part, I can't really help with the other stuff.

Re: need cruise control help

Yes, it hooks into the vacuum reservoir circuit.
It needs to be fed VSS pulses as that's how it "knows" how fast it's going. It needs to be within certain ranges (it'll usually cut out below a certain speed). Idk the tolerances but if it gets 1000 pulses/mile instead of 2000 then its minimum operating speed will double. 4000 will surely work good, at least up to moderate speeds. When you push the 'set' button it reads the VSS frequency and tries to maintain it there.

Re: need cruise control help

my car is in park. my dad accidentally put the cruise control on. so i press the cruise control reset button and my cruise control surges to 7000rpm red zone . i shut it off immediately. it never did that before. my idle also went up to 1500- 2000Rpm
