Battery Dies In Like 10 seconds..
Battery Dies In Like 10 seconds..
My battery died this morning.. There was nothing.. no lights no noises.. I just jumped the battery with another car.. The car went back to normal while it was being jumped but as soon as the jumper cables came off. The battery died again... Whats up?

the battery is probably toast, we have a van at work that does the same thing its rated at 600 cca and it has 5 amps when tested, started with jumper cables and leave them hooked up the van runs but when you pull the cables off its completely dead, dont try to charge the battery its down to low to pick back up i would start hunting a battery.
also if you install a new battery take your car or truck to advance and have them test the alternator as well to keep the battery good b/c if the alternators toast to its going to kill your brand new battery.

How long do batteries usually last? This one is alittle over a year old.
Thats what i was thinking.. But i didnt have my car running because there wasn't any spark plugs in and the valve covers are off. Ill try again once i have everything back together

batteries tend to last around 5 years, more sometimes too, but I had 3 batteries in last year as 2 of them went bad (i think it was my fault too hehe)
batteries may be faulty, but if you jump it and turn off and it doesnt start again, then either alt isnt charging it.check voltage when car running, should be between 13.5 and 15 (someone correct me on this) and if its not, it might be alternator. Battery also may hold charge but not enough when stress tested (like by starter solenoid) or just may not hold charge at all...
my money is on the battery tho

if the alternator is bad when you take the jumpers off the car will die also. if you buy a new battery start the car then remove the neg battery terminal. if the car stays running the alternator is good but if it dies you need a new alternator.

newer cars though ive heard you have to be very careful when taking the battery loose with the car running because you can fry the ecm like an egg.

yea on new cars do not touch the battery cables to anything if the car is running. But I was only talking about the negative battery terminal only. Taking it loose will not hurt anything (i work at a dealership acura/honda tech)
