Engine: 5.7 carbed
Transmission: turbo 350
Heater not working

I have a heater problem it blows heat and all but but it wont switch from vent its got vaccuum and all that jazz but it wont change from off or vents.

Sorry, it's early and I'm a bit dull this morning. If you only have defrost, which the the default setting, you have a vac leak.

But its not its stuck on vents not defrost

If you have a vacuum leak it will not change from the last setting it was in before it lost vacuum.

As I mention above, it'll default to defrost. Perhaps, 84, you should pull the HVAC and take a peek.

i tried that its got good vaccum and a new donut on it so thats got me puzzled.

ok my bad its the round black thing on the heater control with silver metal tabs that changes the vents with vaccum. Hooks up near the vaccum line.

With the car running do you have vacuum at the rear of the controll head? There should be one plastic hose (black) that runs from a vacuum sorce and routes to the inside of the car behind the heater / A/C controll head. Here it becomes multiple very short vacuum lines and are different colors. Depending on where you have the slider selected (heat, vents, defrost etc) the controll head will route the vacuum sorce to move the main door and route the air where selected. If you are not able to controll the vents it is either a vacuum leak, or the lever that controlls the Door is jammed. Usually the problem can be traced down to a vacuum leak.

its got good vaccum at the black hose but im not sure really how to get a testers on the other ones
