Fog Lights

I have a 1987 Iroc-Z 5.0 TPI with fog lights in the grille. Both of them just stopped working. How would I go about replacing them or checking what's the problem.

Thanks

Fuse...Switch...Bulbs, in that order.

Re: Fog Lights

If it's the bulbs do I only need the bulbs or the whole light?

Re: Fog Lights

Check the other stuff first. Changing the housing won't affect the lights operation either way.

If both went out together, my bet is a fuse or the switch itself.

Re: Fog Lights

I just checked the fuse that's not it, the switch to turn them on still works so I'm thinking it's the bulbs.

By "working"....Do you mean it "clicks"? Or have you verified voltage both into & out of it?

Depending on where you show voltage exists, it'll tell you where to start looking for the power loss.

Shot in the dark: Your fogs won't work with the high beam on.

Just because the switch lights the little light, that doesn't mean power goes out to the fog lights.

And yeah...Hi Beams = no fog lights. But that can be "fixed"

Re: Fog Lights

Well it isn't the fuse so how do I check if the switch is giving out power?

Re: Fog Lights

Test for power at they bulb. If you don't have power there, pull the switch. See if it has power going in & going out.

Real simple...Get yourself a test light are start testing........

Re: Fog Lights

According to Tim Burgess, "on Camaros the relay was moved from the driver's side fender to near the fuse panel under the dash sometime between '87 & '92."

They only work with the lights on, not with the lights off or the highs on. Only with city & driving lights. Well...at least that's how mine works.

Re: Fog Lights

Mine are wired straight in the power for the hi beams. I have no switch they come on when I turn regular lights on. How it should be from the factory in my opinion but hey whatca gonna do?

Get a voltmeter and test at the fog light assemble for power. If none is present then work your way back to the relay (its under the dash in 89 and up) and see if it's bad wires, bad relay, or bad connection on switch.

IN L.A. DO I NEED SMOG LIGHTS ?

After you're finished, note that for maximum effectiveness in fog you want the choice to have the fog lights only on.

Having excessive lights on during normal conditions just looks dorky and makes people think the driver must have poor eyesight.

No I need to check if it's the bulbs. How do I remove them? I don't see any screws, only the ones to adjust the fog lights
