86 IROC gear light and rear defrost problem
86 IROC gear light and rear defrost problem
Hey everyone,
I have an 86 IROC with auto tranny. The light that tells me which gear I'm in doesn't work. I took it apart and replaced the small bulb that lights it up but that doesn't fix the problem, any ideas? Also I want to fix the rear defrost deal. Right now it doesn't work or even really have a switch that I know of? It has the strips on the window and hook ups on the shocks, what do I need to do /purchase to make that work?
Thanks
Erik

Do you have a rear defroster switch on the dash ( under the Lighter ? ) If there is no button there for the rear defroster than remove that Lighter Bezel from the dash and see if there is a plug sitting in there. If the car has the correct hatch and shocks than the Rear defroster bezel could have been replaced ( OR ---- the rear hatch is not original. ) If the wiring is back there than you might just need a Bezel and button. I suspect the hatch might have been swapped.
As far as the light in the center console.... The socket could be corroded/bad and need to be cleaned/replaced. Check for voltage at the plug with a voltmeter when the headlights are turned on. (Grey positive and black negative )
