I want to get rid of this alarm system but don't know where to start.

Well, I originally posted in Tech when I cut two unknown wires which was followed by a weird pop by the fuse box and then no power, to the dash or anywhere else and no ignition. I was told about a couple of fuses that it might be so I started to open up my dash and center console when I found this huge mess. I am a relative novice at this sort of car electrical stuff and could really use some assistance. I know that black box is some sort of alarm system that connects all the way to those relays by the power window switches but I don't want to cut a bunch of wires that don't look like they are part of the harness and then be unpleasantly surprised with more problems.

Any ideas where to start?

Just to be sure that is not the VATS system is it? I just bought this 89 Firebird and am new to the VATS thing.

cut each wire individualy as close to the wire it is taped in to and electric tape up the old connection assuring that no fray wires are sticking out. there should only be one wire that was cut from your vehicle and that is the wire that sends power to the starter. it should be yellow, so there will be one wire that you have to reconnect, i recomend soldering or using a butt connector if you must.

here is a link to a wiring list for your vehicle http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/1859.html so you can know what you are cutting out.

good luck

Do they usually cut that yellow starter wire in the engine bay or from underneath the dash?

Also, do you know what the function of all of those relays are for? I have 4 in the center console and 2 by the fuse box.

should be under the dash...

as for the relays i cant tell because ur pictures are a little small but where do the wires go?

if they go the window switches you may have some type of home made window modual, to remotely control your windows, i threw one in my camaro when i did the alarm/remstart.

That's exactly where the relays go. Those four center console relays are spliced into the switches then they all connect to a big red and black wire that go into the alarm box.

At this point I will just be happy when my car starts again. I guess tomorrow I will start cutting.

Thanks.

is that it? other than the two power wires going to the alarm box there is no other wires going to the alarm? hmmm someone may have done a one touch conversion. you know how newer vehicles you can just tap the window button and it goes down all the way

Re: I want to get rid of this alarm system but don't know where to start.

Well I started pulling wires from the box and found some that go underneath the driver's side runner and all the way to the back of the car. The wires seem to disappear into the back driver's side panel. I also noticed that all of the defroster connections were disconnected. I am so confused but I am pressing on.

I still don't know if it is a one touch conversion because I still have no power but would I be able to keep it without the whole alarm box.

you should be able to keep the one touch without the alarm, assuming thats what it is. as far as the wires running to the back it could either be a rear defrost hook up if its a remotestart, a hatch pin or it could be hatch release (but that would be stupid for themn to back back there because the switch is right there, assuming u have it)

Hello Breamrules:
In the future please ask before you cut OKAY.
if you have a 91'camaro RS like mine it would be a very good benifit to you to subscribe to ALLDATA.COM it is what my most favorite mechanics use to research the vehicles they work on everyday. or ask your favorite mecganic what they use for online information.
NOW I WILL GIVE YOU THE SAD NEWS:
your vehicle is equipped with a security system it came as a factory install and is very invasive to the entire system. it wiil effectively disable the starter motor and the ingintion by way of the vehicles ECM (electronic Control Module) you will notice a small chip on your ignition key
it is basically a resistor it is PAIRED to a security relay which is mounted on the driverside behind the panel below and in front of the door. if this system is being attempted to be bypassed without specific knowledge you can expect your vehicle to run very rough if at all and only for limited intervals.
I have the same issue>>>>>>>
only I was attempting to correct some other issues and I discovered that someone had bypassed the security and installed a seperate ignition including the key into the ORANGE security lead....... now my vehicle runs very rough because the system ECM is not retarding the ignition timing or maybe it was retarded to begin with and now it is not or it wasn't and now it is anyway I am going back in today to see if I can find something to correct it mean while I think I'll have another shot of Tequilla just to shore up my nerves. oh I posted a thread that might attract some higher intelegence and save us, YOU AND ME from setting fire to our cars and doing strange dances with aliean beings
