question about the power hatch
okay so my question is, my power hatch works using the key and the button inside the car and releases the hatch okay, but when i go to close the hatch, the motor doesnt want to close. when i first bought the car it worked all the time, but recently when i go to close it i have to leave it partially open and sometimes i come out of my house the next morning and the trunk in closed. so is it maybe a wire problem, because it will only do it when its left alone for a several hours. Im guessing the motor is okay, but maybe a wire is going out or something. so im kinda dazed and confused................???????????

Re: question about the power hatch
There were two styles of pull-down unit used for the 1991 model year. The following info applies to the early style which has a large metal frame where it attaches to the car. If yours has a tan-colored plastic frame where it bolts to the car I'll have to give different instructions.
The hatch release (which you've confirmed works fine) and the hatch pull-down motor are on two separate fused circuits. Since your saying the motor will stay up, then sometimes work overnight on its own I'd suspect a bad striker-sensing switch.
The striker-sensing switch is located just in front of the latch as you look at it from the rear of the car and is attached with a single hex-head screw. There are 3 wires (orange, black and white) coming out of the bottom of it. In your case the striker-sensing switch also turns on and off the rear hatch light. You didn't mention if it was working OK or not. If you latch the hatch it should start the motor in its down cycle and turn off that light. If you don't have a light bulb in the lens you can unplug the white wire from the black with orange stripe wire and check if it turns on and off ground using a multimeter or test light. If you find it is bad I sell reconditioned switches on my web site.

Re: question about the power hatch
the light does work when u open the hatch, and it shuts off closing it, it just gets to the spot when you hear a click and usually thats when the motor starts repelling the hatch down, but lately it just clicks and then nothing happens, if this makes a little more sense.

Re: question about the power hatch
I still need you to confirm which of the two versions of pull-down unit you have.
