Neutral Safety Switch
my 89 wasnt starting and i moved the shifter into neutral and then back to park and it started. this has happened a couple times, and has always fired after doing this, this morning i couldnt get it to start at all even after trying this.
i have checked the starter and battery and everything before and i have come to the conclusion that it is the neutral safety switch. I think?
anybody know what to do, or where the neutral safety switch is so i can look and see?
thanks guys.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
Any car parts store should carry the automatic shifter selector switch. The neutral safety switch is just one third of it.
I just replaced one recently on my friend's car, they'r every easy to do, just pop the shifter cover plate and it's right there on the shifter.
In the meantime, if you need to start your car to get to the store and buy the part, you can use a big paperclip and stick it in the switch contacts to bypass it. But ONLY TEMPORARILY. The wires to bypass are the two THICK wires on the switch. Make sure the paperclip isn't touching ground or anything else metallic.
Hope this helps.
