Re: MSD 6AL or MSD 6A
For stock or mild engine there is really no benifit or reason from it for the price.I did buy a MSD digital 6 when I was an extreme newbie. It may help a little but no noticeable gains or anything you can feel.Main reason I bought it was for the rev limiter and I plan on spraying it one day once I get my prom dialed in and can eliminate all knock I`m getting. It will not hurt anything but the money could be better spent on something else that would improve performance right away.

AKA if you have a stick buy a 6al for the rev limiter this way if your playin around or go to the track and you miss a shift or the driveshaft breaks you just hit the limiter and not over rev your motor cheap insurance

Re: MSD 6AL or MSD 6A
The digital 6 has 2 rev limits and a retard for nitrous plus 135 mj of spark over the 6als 115 mj and only 1 rev limit, Plus you need specific chips to control the rev limits on the 6al and you have dials on the digi 6. If you got the 6al cheap then go for it but if your going to lay out 150 or more, just get that 6520 it has a lot for the $

The digital Summit digital box is better and cheaper. use to install several MSD boxes on Rx7's and finally tried the summit boxes and they actually worked out better overall.

The summit box is a mallory, check here for some reviews, some good some bad. The 6al is a good box but like anything electronic it has limits, so..arch it out, drop voltage to it etc,etc it will die. Use a capacitor and you won`t have troubles, it protects it from spikes and what not.
I would just go with a blaster 2 or 3 it will be fine and is alot cheaper.

Re: MSD 6AL or MSD 6A
ok, right now i have a cheap aftermarket distributor, with a accel hei super coil, the type that sits on top of the distributor, does the blaster add on to the system or does it eliminate the super coil ?
msd blaster 2 and 3 seem very similar, is there a difference ?
also my car is automatic so should i go with a base 6A, or still go for the digital 6 ? and when u say capacitor where can i get this ? sorry for all the questions

Re: MSD 6AL or MSD 6A
The 6al has a rev limiter it`s worth while if you have some good HP I`d say 400 or more. If you already have a decent coil, stick with that. The Digital 6 box is a good deal for what it offers, I always try to buy ahead and above for the future, since I upgrade things all the time, it`s nice to buy something and actually use it for more than a year or two.
