Ignition lock cylinder replacement.
Alright guys i have an 87 iroc and i believe my lock cylinder in the column is bad so i'm going to start here. Most of the time the car starts fine just every now and again the cylinder won't engage for any accesories to come on or to start the engine.
I can usually turn it back and forth a few times and get it to work its just becoming a pain.
All i need is a little advice on how to do this. Do i have to pull the steering wheel or not??? If not how do i remove the old one. Any advice would be great.

You'd definitely have to pull the steering wheel. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna do the very same procedure myself, i've already bought the tools for about roughly $30 (steering wheel puller & lock plate compressor). I had enough of mechanics that care little for doing a good job. Anyways, there's many a thread here with pics included:

To remove the original and replace the cylinder, if you take it to a shop look to about $60 hr, (he took two hours so $160.00), that's without parts included. For the cylinder you're looking at around $55 or so at an auto parts store. Hope this helps

Re: Ignition lock cylinder replacement.
My car was in an attempted stealing and they busted the column and now I have to start my car with a pair of pliers grabbing a straight metal tab out towards myself to start the engine. The tab is on the left side of the column, right near the dash. The car wont start or antyhing without my chip in key though, so they didnt get the car, DIDNT even steal the radio or CD's
Anyway do i need a whole new column as a buddy told me I just need a certain piece, replace it in a couple hours and go on my way....What piece would this be?
Sorry for hijacking, but we dont need 100 threads on steering column problems, resulting in posible the same answer/part.
