VSS is it for more than TCC and Cruise Control?

Ok Im trying to plan some stuff for a T56 swap and trying to avoid the costly tail shaft conversion. So my question is Does the VSS signal used for more than the Cruise and the torque converter lock up? With the manual no need for a TCC and if I can get the cruise out of the same year T56 then perhaps I should be ok? Already looking at swapping out the mechanical speedo for an electric one prob stock camaro since some guys have already done that here (much cheaper than aftermarket).

After reading some stuff on the JTR website it said that the VSS is used for things like EGR, fuel, some other things but when I read the helms manual it doesnt mention anything like that.

TIA
Jack

YES the VSS is used for EGR and a few others. If you don't have it working you'll find that your car will have trouble keeping a good idle as well as run too rich and then too lean. I recently figured out that my VSS had gone out (even though I didn't get a Code 24) after I had already replaced my MAF (thinking that was the problem). The car started holding a high idle (15 - 20) even when coasting in nuetral ( I take it outta gear alot when going down hills) and at times it would die when I was coasting (same hills). Trust me, that will drive you nuts!!
