Pull off the rear surround trim panel. Unplug the blue wire from the red/white stripe wire. Use a multi-meter or test light and check that you have 12 volts at the red/white stripe wire. While your at it grab hold of the latch and see if you get motion side-to-side or front-to-back. That would indicate bad guides. Check that the clear plastic motor housing isn't cracked. These, along with all the other items you may need to repair your pull-down unit are available on my web site.

You didn't post the year and model of your F-body. The fuse for the camaro pull-down unit is in the fuse panel. The fuse for the firebird pull-down unit is in a separate single fuse holder that should be attached to the outside of the fuse panel. It can be slid off of the fuse panel, so if it isn't attached to it you'll have to search for it.

Re: Rear hatchback won't close (Electric)

lonsal has the right idea, but you can also take a large flat head screwdriver and push down on the locking mech inside of the lower latch to see if it goes down. sometimes they lock as if the hatch was down, so when you drop it you hit the closed latch instead of an open one.
does it click when you hit the inside open button? if it does you are getting power to it. if you can push it down and it moved by itself they you are getting power to the self closing latch.
you could be out of allignment.
if none of those things happen - start looking for a power failure.

That reminds me. As Tony may be referring to, the pull-down unit may have gone down only part way and needs to be re-set. You re-set it by pressing and holding down the striker-sensing switch. It is a small black paddle located in front of the latch. The pull-down unit ONLY powers down if that switch is being depressed. If the pull-down unit started down and you popped the hatch open before it reached the end of the Down cycle the pull-down unit will be stuck mid-cycle and will not power down again until that switch is again pressed and held down.

Check the fuse box for a blown fuse.
