Hooking up alarm, hatch release question
I have a 88 Trans Am with power hatch release, I was looking at my 1990 service manual and it shows a brown wire coming from the hatch release switch to the relay that powers the solenoid. 88 should be the same as 90.
Here is a 1992 Diagram I found online. It looks similar.

My question is: Is this brown wire coming from the switch sending a negative trigger to the relay to pop the hatch? I need to find a wire to tap off of for the trunk release feature of my alarm.
Thanks

The brown wire does go to ground when the switch is activated however if you hooked the alarm wire to the brown wire it would have 12 volts on it from the relay coil at other times.
That might drain the battery/hurt the alarm depending on brand and model of alarm.
If you need a negative trigger can add a relay.
Put the new relay coil parallel with the present relay, one side of the contact to ground, the other becomes the negative trigger.
Happy Racing!

Re: Hooking up alarm, hatch release question
First off you can't use the circuit diagram you posted. It is for a 1991-92. Their pull-down unit and hatch release are combined into one unit. There is no solenoid to release the hatch on those. There is a small ramp block on the back side of the frame that rotates a lever to release the latch as the pull-down motor rises. On the 86-91 pull-down units the solenoid is a separate unit that is attached to the latch. It is powered on a separate circuit as well. Look at the circuit diagram on page 8A-134-0 of your 1990 Camaro Service Manual. It is a black wire that provides positive to the solenoid to pop it. It is crazy that GM used a black wire for hot, but they did. Also be sure the black wire going from the 10mm screw that attaches the solenoid to the latchis present. The solenoid is electrically isolated from ground by the guides, so that other black wire I just mentioned must be present.
