steering column / ignition help needed.
Alright guys finally got a new (used) column out of an 87 camaro, cool even same year as mine. Well i just got done taking my old one out and everything on the two is alike except for on the column that was is my car a cable hooked to the back of the ignition switch. I have no clue what this was for. If its a cruise thing i don't care since these cars are made to be driven and not put on cruise control. Also the column i bought has a lever under the key that must be pussed down in order to fully turn off the ignition, Why Is This And whta Does It Do. any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: steering column / ignition help needed.
The cable goes to the shifter, to keep you from locking the steering wheel unless the trans is in park.

Ok. So will the car run and drive without the cable hooked to ignition. The column itself doesn't lock don't know what happened there.
