electric hatch unit stuck down, hatch open: HELP
For one reason for another, the hatch motor retracted down into the back. I don't know how to get it back up so i can close my hatch again. Anyone know whats wrong?
Re: electric hatch unit stuck down, hatch open: HELP
Mine did the same thing sometime back. I could not get it to close, but my hatch was stuck in the up position. I finally ordered this kit and it started to work again.

You pretty much rebuild the hatch unit. Did you try the key and see if it would trigger it to go back up?

There is a micro switch on the latch where it grabs the striker. If you use a screw driver to push the switch down and turn the key at the same time it should come back up unless there is an electrical problem. Happened to me a few times while working on the rear of my car.

got it!
i just kept slamming the lid down into the unit until it clicked closed,
hit the switch and it came right back up.
i guess with enough force anything possible.

Good way to destroy the hatch motor assembly. Forget the screw driver and just use your finger like you knew what it was for and tigger the switch.

That's correct. The housing easily cracks and will cause more problems later on. The kit above has a new housing with metal to reinforce to prevent cracking. My hatch unit works like new with it.

Yes, don't slam the hatch closed. Just reach in and press on the striker-sensing switch. When the motor finishes going down you'll hear a CLICK which is the reversing switch being tripped. Release the striker-sensing switch and it should power all the way back up.
You can buy the replacement parts for the pull-down unit from TDS (Top-Down Solutions) including the reinforced motor housing to replace the one you broke by slamming the hatch shut.
