What The Heck Is This!?
I was poking around under the hood today to scout out the engine bay for when I replace the majority of the split loom tubing tomorrow and tidy things up in there a bit, when I noticed for the first time this big a$$ freakin electrical connector. It kinda surprised me to find something like this under the hood disconnected and now I'm scratching my head wondering what it goes to.
It's laying right between the valve cover and the back two injectors on the passengers side.
Sorry for the crummy cell phone pics. It's the only thing I was armed with at the moment.

Re: What The Heck Is This!?
EGR solenoid... supposed to have one vac tube going to plenum or TB vac port (can't remember which), and one going under plenum to EGR valve.

How in the hell did I not notice such a thing being disconnected before!? Could you tell me what adverse effects this would have on normal operation (Besides of course EGR not functioning).

Re: What The Heck Is This!?
does it have hard platic tubing attached to it? It kinda looks like a fuel vapor return assembly. Just redirects any vapors back through the intake. My LT1 had one, when I first came accross it i was like WTF is this

Re: What The Heck Is This!?
I went out and checked the vac lines are hooked up so false alarm one goes to the egr and the other to TB.
But I mean come on a big part like that just laying out where is it supposed to mount to?

Re: What The Heck Is This!?
On my car, it bolts to the same little bracket as the external coil, although it looks like you have a coil-in-cap distributor. Hmm, does it look like it could bolt down with one or two of the intake bolts...? I'll try to remember to take a look at my dad's Camaro tomorrow. His is setup similar to yours, I think, with the coil-in-cap dist.

Most likely. But I don't have a torque wrench and don't want to start cracking open the intake bolts.
Theres lot's of stuff on my car like that that I'm trying to identify and tidy up. The next part culprit is this big thing that can only be described as a rubber mallet looking piece. It has a hose running to it and the hose bears the resemblence to a handle then it connects to this black part that would look like the head on a mallet.

Oh, yep, that is the muffler for the AIR bypass. When the AIR system is in divert mode, it just pumps air out to atmosphere, it makes an annoying sound, hence the muffler.

I could have sworn once the AIR system had done It's job it just turned off.
Someone on here had said in a different post that the AIR system only runs for a few minutes on startup then becomes useless for the rest of the time your driving

Re: What The Heck Is This!?
Well, you see, the AIR pump is belt driven and, therefore, is pumping air whenever the engine is turning. So, it cannot "shut off." The AIR system consists of 2 main parts, the pump and control valve (have heard it called diverter valve too). The valve controls the destination of the pumped air. It can go to any one of the following: manifolds, cat, or vent (through that muffler thing). I don't know specifically under what conditions it goes where, but after a while it switches to vent. Effectively becoming "useless." So, like I said, because the pump is always pumping, the air has to go somewhere... And, when it's not needed anywhere else it vents to atmosphere through that mallet looking muffler thing.
Wow,
, that was a long winded explanation... I blame it on the English home work I just got done, makes me get too wordy...

Re: What The Heck Is This!?
Ah... i've seen that before, I had the same problem once. I found the other end of it under the tranny, (was a bitch to get to it, had to cut a hole in the floor to get to it) and I plugged it back in. A curious thing happened when I plugged it in, a new light turned on in my gauge cluster that said " Full Engine Power" , and I tell ya, my butt dyno felt atleast a 75 HP increase... Thats just my experience with it... but you don't have to take my word for it

It was a little funny... I took it completely serious on the first read through, and was just totally lost... Thread
