Wont Start

I replaced the ignition key in 92 z-28 when you turn the switch on all lights in dash come on the starter will not turn the engine over I checked the fire under the hood to the starter it is good I replaced the ignition switch on the bottom of the steering column where it plugs up I checked the key with a meter it reads good I have the antitheft hooked up or VATS why isnt my starter turning the engine over starter is good.

Re: Wont Start

Sorry I'm getting to this so late, and I hope you have it figured out by now, but if not then it may sound stupid but make sure your in neutral or park and also that your neutral safety switch is good. If your trans selector shows "N" or "P" and it's still not doing anything, try wiggling the selector around while you keep trying to start the car, sometimes things get funky under there and you do what you have to do. Hope this helps.

Re: Wont Start

i fixed mine it was the ignition starter switch and i went ahead and replace teh starter and my neutral safety switch all at the same time if one goes the other is bound to be weak to go. and btw put a new steering column in form a 91 firebird worked like a charm. now urs could be u didn't adjust ur ignition starter switch correctly maybe. but the neutral safety switch is sometimes teh colprit.

Does the new key have the same size resistor that the old 1 did?
