Car: '91 RS CP now is the son's driver
Engine: CP =3.1, will get V-8 maybe someday
Transmission: stock
Axle/Gears: 3.42 posi W/ disks

I have pondered this issue at great length, and think that maybe when I redo my vert that I will build a relay center. Use the relays to power the window motors, as I personally think that the window switches might be to light for the load, and could be the source of our troubles. I'll resarch this issue further but I do like your idea of a differant motor though maybe an older design? should work, GM does not like to change everything, they just repackage it. I am sure the bolt patterns for all GM power window motors are the same but I have been known to eat crow before

I think like you the switches could be a problem. I had the drivers window intermittent and the switch broke completely. I replaced both switches and windows moved faster as well as operated normally.
This is the third GM car I had with power windows and they all move slow compared to the Fords I had and those move quicker but they use plastic parts which break quite often.

i believe it would have to be pre 82 i am not sure of the year that the window motors were "CHEAPENED" up, but i do know tha most of GM' whole line up went to the crap we have about the same time
