Transmission: 700 R4
Axle/Gears: 3.23 / 9:7:1
loose cable

What is this cable for (see the 2 pictures) on the passenger side close to the firewall right next to ignition terminal connector and hood light connector and A/C stuff ? I cannot trace it exactly but the visible end seems to come from the engine side therefore technically it has to connect to something from the ECM side. It is a red cable with PED written on the top of its small socket. There is no other end on the loose nor the engine light comes on for an error at all.

check under the air plenum if you got a iroc z. It might be a wire that connects to a sensor that messures the amount of air that enters the intake. check under plenum to the rear but just infront of the distributer.

Nope, this does not connect to any engine sensor.

This is one of the extra power wires lying around the engine compartment. It's unused on most of our cars. I am not sure what it's for right now but somebody will hopefully chime in and clarify.

Feel free to leave it laying there, it's not hurting anything.

OK, BigBadLou, since you have the same car as mine, I take your word for it I suspected it is something like that but never hurts to ask... Still, let's hope someone gives us a definite answer later. PS: I have another puzzle but that one is somewhat complicated and I will open a new thread for it later, possibly tomorrow. I hope you check it out then...

Chevy86, mine is Z28 and that is intake air flow sensor and is connected properly but thanks anyway for the idea...

Looks like a fuel pump prime connector. Some cars had it right at the relay, some had it near the AC box

Remove the fuel pump relay and do a continuity test from the unknown connector to Pin C (red wire)

If there is a path then you can add 12v and the pump will engage

thanks for the idea but wouldn't the car NOT START if that cable were to be fuel pump primary connector? The car has no visible or SES problems...

Pocket meant the prime/priming wire, not the primary wire. You're right, if the fuel pump primary wire was disconnected, you wouldn't have fuel.
The prime wire serves for priming the fuel pump without having to turn the key.
However, I believe that it surfaces only under the dash in the ALDL connector, nowhere else.

Im 100% sure 3rd gens have a separate connector attached to Pin C of the fuel pump relay

Salvaging harnesses for various swaps Ive found the connector is usually withing 6" of the relay, while a rare few had it near the AC box

Look for yourself

sorry if this is the wrong thread but im new to the forum. im looking into buying a 91 firebird, apparently the starter went on in but after installing a new one we had the same problem that it just made a clicking sound but would not turn the motor over but did move it. we figure it could be a bad ground some where. has anyone had a similar problem?
