Ignition fault?
Hi, not sure if this is the correct place for this question so sorry if it isn't.
Basically my '92 Camaro RS has some kind of intermittent ignition issue, sometimes I'll jump in and it'll start up first time no problems. But more often that not I'll turn the key and it'll just kinda make a click/clunk noise...it's hard to explain so I took a short video...

it WILL start...it's just a question of how many times I turn the key.

Re: Ignition fault?
I couldn't hear the clicking very clearly in the video but if it is coming from under the hood (the starter), the problem is the dreaded infamous underengineered Cheby stater solenoid.
If the clicking is coming from the inside of the vehicle, I recommend following this troubleshooting article to identify the source of the problem: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=38
Hope this helps.

Re: Ignition fault?
Hi Lou,
Thanx for the info, I think it's coming from under the hood now I think about it. I'll open my hood and get my mate to try and start it while I listen.
Hopefully a new starter won't be too costly...is there a better aftermarket starter I can use instead of replacing it with the same one if they're not much good. Unless the original one can be repaired?
Cheers
Andy

Re: Ignition fault?
If the clicking sound comes from the starter solenid, that one can be replaced without the need to buy a whole new starter. However, the solenoid is usually about 80% of the price of the whole combo.
However, I would remove the TC inspection cover and look at the starter bendix to see whether it is extending out of the housing and hitting the flexplate teeth, thus causing a clunking noise. That would be a starter shimming issue.
