wipers and brake lights don't work
wipers and brake lights don't work
Hello, I have a 90 Bandit 2 firebird and have some electrical issues, my wipers and brake lights and 3rd eye do not work. On the wipers, My pulse board was smashed from a previous engine swap from a previous owner and I went and got a new board and motor from a 92 firebird and still do not work. Then I turned the key on, turned the wiper switch on,unplugged the connections on the bottom of motor and on pulse board and checked with a test light and nothing, no light, so I am not getting power to the motor, does anybody have any suggestions on what to check next? Now on the brakelights, when I got the car which was recently it did not have a brakelight switch at all, so I went to Autozone and got one, but was the wrong one, it was for cruise, I do not have cruise, so I went back to get the right one and their computer said that for non cruise with an auto trans was not available, but one for a stick shift was , the connections did fit the switch, but lights still do not work, even the 3rd eye does not work. But the tail lights and turn signals do. Any suggestions here? Thank you for any help, Jason

Re: wipers and brake lights don't work
I would get a book on basic automotive wiring and read it. Here is one...
http://www.themotorbookstore.com/el.html
(That book may be available at your local auto parts store?)
Then after reading that, buy a multimeter. (You might decide to buy a specific type after reading the above.)
Then get a factory service manual set for your vehicle which will include wiring diagrams or will include a separate wiring diagrams manual.
Then you will be able to troubleshoot and fix the above problems.
Basically the wiring on a vehicle is all wrapped up in harnesses and concealed, so it is impossible to trace any wires and see where they go. All you can do is disconnect connectors and test the connections. BUT you need to know what connector is for what, what terminals/wire colors are for what, and what test to preform (using a multimeter) to troubleshoot the problem. So that is why you need a factory service manual set for this.

BRAKING WIPERS
WIPERS:
Check the wiper fuse.
Check the wiper switch.
Power is fed to the wiper switch from the fuse VIA a 16AWG white wire thru a connector (to the right of the steering column, located behind the knee bolster).
.
BRAKE LIGHTS:
Use a voltmeter to see if you have power going INTO the switch.
Report your findings.
Happy Racing!
If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going BackwardsFog lights are not driving lights. They look dorky. Turn em off slow pokes.
How bout those dorks too scared to drive without headlights on in the daytime!
