Need Help Vats system trouble
Hi guys i have a 91 Camaro Rs i just got my car back from a theft recovery, i have no keys or anything, i installed a new ignition switch, i don't have any chips for the vats, or tester to test the ohms. I there anyway i can bypass the the ignition on the steering column and put a push button start? I was told to run the thick yellow igintion wire off the column into the thick tan/white wire to shifter assembly and that would do it. I still can't get the car to start and my steering column i very very loose, the key chime comes on and off if you turn giggle the steering wheel. What would i have to do to put a push button start w/ a toggle for power? Any help would be greatly appercaited.

You don't have a spare key anywhere for it? Wow - I get spare keys for everything made even BEFORE I sign titles!
Read the tech article on bypasing vats. Then go ot radio shack and buy each of the resistors (they are $1 each - there's only 13 of them). Then, connect them one by one according to the tech article until you find the one that works - then either leave in there (bypassing the vats), or take it out and get a key made to fit your new ignition switch with that value chip in it. Ace Hardware makes the chip keys for $20 each.
And, write down the resistor value this time at least! LOL

Like camaronewbie says, just search and you'll find plenty of VATS posts here with lots of good information.
Once you find out what resistance pellet you used to have in your key, I STRONGLY urge you to do it the right way and have a real key made instead of bypassing the VATS. Afterall, you do NOT want your car stolen again, do ya? Because you'd make it very easy for any inbred redn*ck to take your car without VATS.

Re: Need Help Vats system trouble
I just noticed that you have a 350 in an RS. Did you keep fuel injection on it or did you put a carb on it? Because if you have a carb, you don't need VATS at all. Well, VATS would prevent YOU from starting the car but not a dumbass punk with a screwdriver.
So if you have a carb, you can search for a pushbutton start here and you'll find a lot of information on how others have done it.
Hope this helps.
