Re: my electrical nightmare

also, this is also under the passenger kickpanel. is this the harness which goes to the diagnostics port on the drivers side?

Re: my electrical nightmare

#1 - Engine data sensor, hard to tell which one. What's the middle wire color? It seems like grey/red but can't be sure.
#2 - That sure looks like the knock sensor. But I'm not sure whether the CCC engines had one.
#3 - That plug looks identical to the manual transmission backup switch plug. Is the harness from a manual car? Are the wires long enough to go back to the tranny?
#4 - No idea. If it's a pink/black wire, it's ignition powered and it could be powering any device on the engine.
#5 - For sure aftermarket alarm, I recognize the standard connector.
#6 - That looks like the C207, a connector between the ECM and the dash (carries some signals like CEL etc).

Hope this helps.

Re: my electrical nightmare

I do not have much experience with the pre-1985 wiring so yes, it could be the temp sensor. I'd check if the wire is dark green and if it's missing from the driver side head temp sensor or the passenger side head temp switch.

I went by the belief that GM used the same style connectors throughout the whole generation and they used that connector only on the knock sensor whereas the temp sender and switch used a blade style single connector. Hopefully somebody will chime in to confirm/correct this.

Re: my electrical nightmare

thank you all for your answers.

pic #1. the middle wire is grey/red. this connector splits off of the main bundle of wires that comes out of the firewall on the passenger side, right above the right valve cover.

pic #2. where are the temp sensors plugs located on the sides of the engine?

pic #3. the car is a manual transmission. this connector is attached to a long wire that would reach the transmission. where about on the transmission is the backup switch plug? my reverse lights don't work could this be why?

Re: my electrical nightmare

#1 - As I mentioned earlier, I am not familiar with the pre-1985 models as much. And my wiring diagrams do not show any engine data sensor plug with a grey/red wire, shame on GM.
#2 - The temp sensor is in the driver side head, between the first two sparkplugs. The temp switch is in the passenger side head, between the last two spark plugs. Would the connector fit? Is it a dark green wire?
#3 - Bingo! Look at the drive side of the transmission, there's a plug that would accept your blue-green connector. Those are your backup light wires.

Re: my electrical nightmare

Scratch that, I found better schematics, specifically for a 1984.

#1 - That plug goes into the barometric pressure sensor. Where it is located, I don't know. But at least we know what it is.

#2 - If the wire is blue, that plug goes into the knock sensor on the passenger side of the block (a little fwd of the starter).

Hope this helps.

Re: my electrical nightmare

awesome. thanks for helping me out.

the wire in pic 2 is dark green, so it must go to the temp switch right?

know of any good sites to buy new connectors? because as you can see, these arent in the best condition.
