I have recently bought a 1986 Camaro Iroc-Z28 with a 305 TPI in it. I just noticed a few days ago that the Cooling fan wasn't working. From other small issues with the car I noticed that the electrical system is crap. I went to an advance auto store and asked about what I could do. They gave me a few options, but one that kinda stood out was putting a toggle switch on it so I could control when the fan is on/off. This direction some what seems the best way to me because the electrical system is not the greatest. I believe a toggle switch would be the easiest and safest way to go. I need your opinions! Thanks.

 

I had alot of issues with different fan switches, from expensive aftermarket jobs to GM to cheap autozone junk - none of them worked for longer than a month - I got fed up, and yanked the factory wiring system out. I replaced with a nice Flex-i-lite fan controller from Summit for $90, and it's been great. Has a probe that runs into the radiator fins, it's totally adjustable, and has provisions for always on and always off toggles, as well as single and dual fans.

But, if you want a simple toggle wiring, just unplug the wire from the fan switch inbetween cylinder 6 and 8 on the pass head, and extend this single wire into the cabin and mount on a toggle to ground - toggle off, no ground connection, no fan - toggle on, ground connection and fan on. Simple, and works as long as YOU remember to turn it on!
