Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
Yes, but it is not the right way to do it. You having VATS issues or did your ignition switch just take a dump? There is a purple wire that feeds the starter power when you turn over the ignition. You can wire power to a switch and that purple wire feed to the starter to engage the starter if you want. I would not use a toggle either, but rather a large heavy duty starter button if I were going to do it. Basically, your would be eliminating any security feature of the VATS. But, on a plus side, like we do on the race cars, it lets you turn the engine over without fuel and ignition to build oil pressure before you start...like after oil changes or something...or if you run a dry sump.

Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
Still need more info. Does it try and turn over or click or when you turn the key, you get absolutely nothing? If the lights are on when you try and turn the key, do they dim or anything? Does it crank and just not start? It could be anything from the ignition switch to a bad solenoid on the starter...just need to narrow down where the power is getting stopped up. Start by seeing if you get power at the starter when you turn the key...either with a test light or multimeter. Work your way to the more difficult to test things ignition related.
Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
i get power to starter and dont think its tho starter or solinoid cause i accidently touched to two blots and it cranked and idk about the lights idk if they even work cause i thought it was the batt cause they were so dim but it has 12 v

Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
What year, engine, TPI, TBI, etc. Some more info please. If it doesn't have the chip and it is earlier than '89 it probably is not VATS. You probably have another issue then. Did it turn over when you crank, just not start or does power go to the starter and it doesn't turn the engine over? Battery might be weak, but you really need a multimeter to check for voltage drop across the starer, wires, etc. You can trace wiring and make sure there is continuity, measure resistance, basically properly verify problems...right now it is just speculating. Shoot us year, engine, fuel delivery info. so it's easier to help diagnose also please.
Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
it desnt turn over i think it was a tbi but carb now its a 84 i went out and bought a 50 multimeter im gettin 7v at head lights and like 6 at tail lights so i checked fuses im only gettin like 6 to 7 v on all of my fuses shouldnt it be like 12 and i used a wire to the starter to get it started so dont think its a security system

How many volts at the battery...on the posts? It sounds like battery right now. If the battery itself has 12 volts, do a load test on it if you have access to a battery load tester. Also, check the resistance in the wire from the battery to the starter and post the ohms reading.
Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
its a new battery and yeah like 12.6v at post and it starts when i connect the neg and pos on starter u no that old trick... but my lights r dim so i checked them im gettin 7v to my lights and gettin 6v to all off my fuses if that narrows it down at all

Re: NOW IGNITION PROBELMS
You have a connection/continuity problem in your wiring. Somewhere there is a voltage drop from the battery to the starter/rest of the wiring on the car. Start by checking all your wiring off the battery and work your way out from there. It could be corrosion or bad connections, but somewhere there is an issue with the good voltage getting from your battery to the rest of the car...lights/starter/etc. It's just going to take time and tedious inspection/testing of wiring from here.
