I recently purchased an 82 auto z28 camaro. Ran fine when I bought it, needed tune up work so I began my journey, being that I am green when it comes to this car right now. A few days after I started the battery ran dry, so I changed it being that the original ownder had a sh*t no name in there in the first place. It ran for a few days and died again. Took it back, had it charged, put it back in and did some more work on the car, discovering the + cable to the battery had a nice burn through the cable exposing it, so i changed it. Again I am green when it comes to this camaro, everyone has to start somewhere, so I went off to autozone, bought a new cable the guy told me to get, it was a 2 guage, the - is a 4. I installed it anyway, ran fine again. About three days after that, it had been sitting ( I didnt register it yet, PA and their f**kin emission laws), it died again. Now I am at a loss, just throwing my situation out there to the experts and trying to learn the answer.

 

so the problem is your battery keeps dying? or loosing charge?

 

whats the voltage output on voltmeter in the dash? 8 volts is a clear sign the alt is failing. should be 14.5 ish. low voltage would be why the battery is not keeping a charge.

 

When the batter was charged the voltage was a little over 8, almost halfway. And it keeps losing its charge, resulting in trips back to walmart to recharge my battery haha.

 

 

with a battery fully charged. start the car. check the voltage output on the altenator. even with a faulty battery the altenator will keep the car running.
don't any one have jumper cables any more?

better yet get your battery tested at a local parts store. they can do a load test to determine if the batter is weak, dead or dieing.
