Wiper Lever Broke off
Wiper Lever Broke off
This is another wiper lever issue,
84 Camaro
non-tilt
non-cruise control
The metal post that slides and locks inside the wiper switch has broken off inside the switch itself, now the lever slides in and out freely and there is a piece of the metal stock still stuck inside the switch, causing it not to turn when you try to turn the wipers on/off. the turn signals will still work but the whole thing is loose.
My question,
Am i going to have to pull the steering wheel off down to the wiper switch in order to get this small bit of metal rod out of the turn signal switch?
If so, is the other side of the switch, the internal side, open so i could simply use a punch and push the metal rod out? this would save me from having to buy a new switch, and all i would need is a 9 dollar lever.
The important bit i need to know: is the other side of the switch open so i can slide something in and push the rod out.
Please email me, if you have seen the other side of the switch and know if it is accessible.

Re: Wiper Lever Broke off
I just looked at several Blinker lever switches that are removed from the column. The hole IS open all the way thru.
I had a couple of these and they were made differently. a couple had the back-side of the hole plainly visible - but there was one style that has the hole kind of "blocked" by a piece of plastic. A striaght punch would not work - but it looks like there is enough space betweeen the plastic and the back of the hole to get something in there to push out the broken piece of the signal stalk.
You might need to remove the steering collar to gain access to the back of the switch - but the back of the hole IS open !
