my camaro has a strange issue, can anyone help!!!

Im just going to explain the sequence of events that took place...kind of lengthy, im sorry... please help me out, i dont know what to do..

about a week ago i can ran my 87 4bbl 305 out of gas as i was pulling in the drive way... just wasnt paying enough attention to the gage, but at least it happened in the driveway.. so it took me a few days to get a can full of gas to get enough in her to get to the gas station.. so when i initally started her, she has a check engine light and a very unusal idle/ whine/ and some serious delay in rpm response when winding the engine up to 2500. the idle was low and i bumped the timing a little to get it to idle better... so that worked for a little bit... drove somewhat normal but kept the check engine light.. throttle respone was ...ok i guess, i didnt really romp on it, i more less drive it mellow...

So 2-3 days pass and the camaro had a fit. the radio shut off during play for about 2 seconds and then popped back on... then again off...2-3 seconds and fine again... i was signaling a turn at this moment and my blinker stopped "Blinking".. illumination of all physical lights worked including dash instruments..manaul blinking was ok... my battery guage then fell dead, but still retained all dash lights, stereo was still working.... i got to my driveway and turned it off... i tried starting it again and only got the starter selnoied to click... the starter motor seemed to be working... so just 20 minutes ago im looking under the car and notice a corroded splice point from the battery.... no prob, fixed it, still the same... the starter has about 5 wires going to the same middle terminal and nothing else... there is one terminal on the starter that has just threads and no nut.... i checked around and didnt see anything else out of the normal.....
Can anyone point me in the right directions for diagnosing this strange issue.....

TYLER

Check to be sure that ALL the fuseable links are in good shape. Sometimes bad /old/corroded power wires are hidden inside the heavy insulation around the fuseable links and they will look OK - but will not send good voltage.

Good luck !

those are the black cylinder looking things are on the wires right...? can you purchase new ones at a autozone or Kragen?

I got it running again after swapping a battery and the check engine light went off but i have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running....

Yup - That's them. I can only assume that a parts store would carry them,.... I always get my spares from a boneyard !

yeah, your battery was definitely drained. I would check that alternator just to be sure...

at a idle your alternator is probably not putting out enough juice.

i really suggest getting the alternator tested, and let us know what the results are.

if you have a volt meter i recommend checking it yourself, alot of idiots working at these auto stores don't know how to use the machines correctly and often get a false positive reading. still worth a shot though.
