Couple of Problems?Help Needed Please
Hey guys,I just bought a 1985 Trans Am,Very nice ride!!!Just a couple of problems here and there...
1.) Why are my windows rolling down so slow??In this forums,I saw somebody's post about removing dust particls or sumthing from the motor so that it would run faster,I looked everywhere but no luck...Can Anybody help me with this?
2.) Where is the trunk button located at?The place to put the key in my trunk is rusted out and i cant figure any other way in opening it other than finding the switch for the trunk button.
3.) How do i replace the headlight motors?Where is the motor located at?
4.) Is there a seatbelt recall for 1985 trans ams because mine dont work at all.
5.) Do u guys know where i can get cheap weather stripping equipments?
I am sooo sorry for so many question,I am illiterate about cars
and I am planning on working on cars.
Thanks you very much for ur Help!

Re: Couple of Problems?Help Needed Please
Ok well here goes ill try to answer these in a way that makes the most scene lol.
1. Power windows:
If a motors working slowly theres a few possabilities that all stem from 2 basic issues too much load on the motors and power losses that do not contribure to the motors functionality. The first one is pretty self explanatory if the mechinisms in the door dont operate freely then the motor will be bogged down. The second is not so easily understood but here goes lol. It takes energy to do work in this case the desired use of energy is in the motor to open the windows. However there are losses caused by resistances in the wire stuff like that and although these losses should be very small if theres a problem like a bad ground with high resistance alot of energy that would have normally been used in the motor to open the window is being used to overcome the resistance to ground there by making the motor operate slowly because its only getting some of the energy it should be getting. Although i have not heard of much in the line of taking the motors apart and cleaning them its probably possible and there are places inside the motor losses can occur that cleaning may correct although if that was the case i personally would just replace it. If im not mistaken these motors arnt too expensive anyways.
2 Trunk:
The button (if it has a power trunk option) would be located in the dash under the far right 2 gauges.
3. Headlight motors:
The headlight motors are next to the headlights themselves. If you look under the hood and find the **** that manually allows you to operate the headlights that **** is part of the motor.
4. Seat belt recall:
Yes there actually was a seat belt recall on the 85 T/A as well as many other camaros and firebirds. Some persistent people have had luck taking them to the dealer for the fix even though these cars are so old but its a hit or miss kinda thing and the ones that do often times just get new seat belt recievers that are left over in stock but you wont likely have your choice of color.
5. Cheap weather stripping:
Unfortunately there is none. In all my years of dealing with these cars i have never not once heard of a cheap source of weather stripping or heard of anyone else finding one. Maybe someone else will chime in here but I think your going to be pretty SOL here.
