Minimally intrusive alarm?
My stereo got stolen from my car last night, parked right in front of my house. Now I'm considering installing an alarm, even though I really don't like the idea of splicing into the factory wiring. Can anyone suggest a good minimally intrusive alarm system? I'm thinking of something that just taps into the dome light circuit to tell if a door is opened, and maybe a shock sensor. I suppose keyless entry would be nice, but how much extra wiring is that?
Re: Minimally intrusive alarm?
Most alarms tap into power, ground, 12v switched, power lock/unlock, dome light, and parking lights. If you get one with a starter defeat, it'll splice into the ignition wires too. I can relate to not wanting to cut any wires, but it's not really all that intrusive. The insulation gets cut by wire taps a few times, and some stuff gets spliced into the ignition wiring. You could skip the starter defeat, but then you've just got keyless entry, a deterent flashing light, and a siren that most people won't hear or will just ignore.

Yeah, I guess I'll just have to be careful when tapping into stuff. I did find some nice wire taps I think I'm going to use, they look like they will work better than the normal blade type taps. These are the ones I'm gonna try:

After doing a little research, I think I want something that has keyless entry, proximity sensor, and shock sensor. I thought about remote start, but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable messing with ignition wiring. I don't know all that much about car alarms though, are they all pretty much the same? Can anyone suggest a good one that doesn't cost a fortune?

Make the next radio you get have a removable faceplate.
BullDog has alarms with a 4 button remote at only $40.
If you can’t figure it out a ThirdGen© member can talk you thru it.

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards
When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.
How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime
and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain
